Here Begins the Story of SPARKY

May 10, 1999

Cindy called us today, almost in tears. They had babies coming out of their ears and she was spending most of her time caring for a six month old baby that had PARVO (another story of its own). Could we help? "Of course!" we replied. She had a dog up in San Leandro (which is North of Milpitas where BABR is head quartered) that HAD to be picked up ASAP!

Michael found a friend to travel with him, and went over (San Leandro is Southeast of San Francisco) to pick up the baby. Seems as if someone had 'dropped' him off sometime after hours at the Fremont Shelter over there. With not even a note with his name! Michael then drove him on down to Milpitas, where he was to be neutered and then placed for adoption at the semi-monthly Pet Fair at the Milpitas Pet Smart this weekend. Upon his return home, Michael told us what a sweety this baby was. His friend that went with him wanted to 'dog nap' him and take him home for his own! He rode all the way down with his head through the cab window, where he relished the love that he was getting. And in return giving lots of Boxer kisses.

We got another urgent call from Cindy, the baby had spent the night with her and started the cough! Were we still willing to take him in? Again we said 'of course!' (We weren't too worried about us catching the cough, since we had just received a booster shot in April, when our First Foster, Riley, came down with it).

Michael found another friend for the trip (Milpitas is over 90 miles of traffic filled freeways, from San Francisco). While he was on his way, word came from Amy, that a few pictures were already posted in BABR. Rod went and took a look. He was now very jealous of Michael and his friend, he wanted to pick up this gorgeous baby too! But he was stuck at work!
